We're always fascinated to see new and important rarities surface in the hobby. The normal JCM 33e "backrub" card, featuring Sadaharu Oh and Shigeo Nagashima, is one of the most sought after Oh rookie cards. So, when we first viewed the card offered here, we were blown away. Rarely, if ever, have we been so astonished to see a card that was previously unknown to us. It's like a giant sized premium version of the "Backrub" card, with a few minor differences. The card was most likely a first prize winner premium from a display sheet, but it is not from a JCM 33e display sheet. We have seen one complete JCM 33e display sheet in the past, and that display contains uncut panels of regular JCM 33e cards as first prizes. However, the card offered here is the exact same size as most first prize panels of the era. In the 1950s, individual giant sized cards were frequently used as first prizes, so we will assume that this card is such a premium (although it is possible that it could be a salesman's sample or point of purchase display). Although this card utilizes the same image as the JCM 33e Yamakatsu card, there are several minor differences (other than size) between the two cards. This giant card, unlike the JCM 33e, is blank backed. It also contains more vibrant and occasionally different colors than the smaller card. Moreover, the card offered here exhibits a slightly different text design than JCM 33e and is cropped somewhat differently. It's truly a masterpiece. If you desire an extremely rare and desirable Sadaharu Oh rookie card, you will not be disappointed with this lot. For Oh and Nagashima card collectors, this must be nirvana!
