Mizuhara was a star pitcher and third baseman at Keio University who played against the 1934 U.S. Major League All Stars during their Tour of Japan. From 1936 to 1942, he was the Yomiuri Giants' starting third baseman, winning the
league MVP in '42. During World War II, he was captured and spent four years in a Russian POW camp. In 1950, he returned to manage the Giants. From 1950 to 1960, he led the team to a remarkable eight pennants. While we have seen
one or two copies of a few other cards from this set, this is the first example of the Mizuhara card that we've encountered. This rare pennant shaped sepia bromide features a young Mizuhara as a member of Keio
University. The original owner placed his name stamp on the back. The card has a crease near the point, and the top right corner is slightly cut.
