Ikeda was born in 1893 and died in 1952 at the age of 59. He became a Big Six University umpire after graduating from Waseda University, where he was a slick fielding third baseman. During the first season of Japan Pro Baseball in 1936
Ikeda managed the Nagoya team. He then became a Japan Pro Baseball umpire until his retirement in 1948. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1962. Ikeda played for Waseda before 1920--an era before Japan's first baseball cards
were issued. Therefore, this umpire card is a rare opportunity for Japan Hall of Fame card collectors to obtain a prewar card of this early player.
